Now through April 1, 2018, for every flu shot administered, a meal will be donated

LAS VEGAS (September 15, 2017) – Smith’s Food & Drug Stores, under its parent company The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR), announces its second annual health and wellness campaign, One Shot, One Meal, in partnership with Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization. For each flu shot administered at a Smith’s pharmacy until April 1, 2018 Smith’s will donate one meal to Three Square Food Bank through the Feeding America network. “Our goal is to not only provide quality and affordable healthcare for our customers, but we’re proud to bring health and wellness to our local communities as well,” said Aubriana Martindale, Smith’s Corporate Affairs Manager.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 310,000 individuals were hospitalized last year for flu-related illnesses. The CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccination for everyone 6 months of age and older. Flu shots can reduce the risk of more serious symptoms and outcomes, including flu-related hospitalizations.

Feeding America aims to provide wellness, nourishment and strength to people facing hunger,” said Diana Aviv, CEO of Feeding America. “We are excited to partner with Smith’s for the second year on this health and wellness campaign. Visionary partners like Smith’s enable us to help the 46 million Americans who receive food and groceries from our network and food banks.”

Every week, 5.4 million people in the United States receive help through the Feeding America network, which includes 200 food banks that lead the fight against hunger. Feeding America food banks are partners in community health by providing food that promotes health and wellness and partnering to help people improve their health outcomes.
